This Cookie Policy explains how SmartBTN LLC uses cookies, local storage, pixels and similar technologies (together, “cookies”) on smartbtn.me and in the Smartbtn dashboard, and how you can control them. It supplements our Privacy Policy.
Your choice comes first. Only strictly necessary cookies are used until you decide. In the banner, choose “Accept”, “Customize” (choice by category) or close it with the cross (necessary only), and change your mind at any time in Cookie settings (link in the footer of every page). If your browser sends the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, we treat it as an opt-out: analytics and marketing stay off in that browser and the banner is not shown.
1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files that a website stores in your browser. Local storage and session storage work similarly. First-party cookies are set by smartbtn.me; third-party cookies are set by other services, such as analytics providers. Some cookies are deleted when you close the browser (session cookies); others stay until they expire or you delete them (persistent cookies).
2. Categories we use
Strictly necessary — always on
Needed for the website, sign-in, security and the chat widget to work, and to remember your privacy choices. They do not require consent and cannot be switched off in our tool, but you can block them in your browser, which may break parts of the site.

Chat widget
The Smartbtn chat widget on our website runs as part of the chat and is not switched on or off by the cookie banner. Besides the strictly necessary SmartBtnClient ID, it reports the visit to our team’s inbox so that we can help you in the chat.

The chat itself works in every case: declining analytics or marketing does not disable the chat widget.
Extended on-page behavior analysis (optional mode)
The Smartbtn visitor tracker has an optional extended mode that records how a visitor uses a page. It is off by default. It is switched on only for individual chat widgets (buttons) chosen by the website owner; for the widget on our own website, only when we decide to do so. Like the rest of the chat widget, it is not switched on or off by the cookie banner. While it is on, it records, in addition to the visit data described above:
- Clicks: the kind of element clicked (for example button, link, phone or email link, download), its visible label (up to 80 characters, with email addresses, long numbers and tokens removed), the path of an internal link or only the host of an external one, the page section, the approximate position of the click on the page (in percent), and repeated or unanswered clicks.
- Attention and reading: how long each page section was in view while you were active, how many times you came back to it, how many text blocks you read, and scroll depth (25, 50, 75 and 100 percent).
- Hesitation: hovering over buttons and prices, pauses, moving the pointer out of the window through its top edge, and time spent away from the tab.
- Forms (technical signs only): the name of a field (its label, name or placeholder, up to 40 characters), time spent in the field, a yes/no flag that it was filled in, the number of validation errors, and whether the form was submitted or abandoned.
- Other: video and audio playback on the page, opening of the chat window, how many times text was selected or copied (only the fact, its length and the section), and your browsing environment (window size, pixel ratio, orientation, dark mode, touch screen, browser languages, connection type, page load time).
What it does not collect: values typed into form fields, passwords, payment card data, hidden fields, and the text you select or copy. Password and hidden fields, fields that the browser marks as card, password or one-time-code fields, and fields whose name suggests sensitive data (such as card, password, token or passport) are skipped entirely. The text inside input fields, drop-down lists and editable areas is never read, and website owners can mask any part of a page so that its text is replaced by “•••”.
Whom the data is linked to. The summaries are tied to the pseudonymous visitor ID stored in the SmartBtnClient cookie (see the table above) and to the page view; we do not add your name to them. Because the same ID identifies your chat conversation, our team sees them in the visitor card next to it. They are sent only to Smartbtn servers, not to Google, Yandex or any other third-party service, and are not used for advertising.

3. Cookies on our customers’ websites
When a business installs the Smartbtn widget on its website, the widget uses the strictly necessary storage listed above to run the chat, and the visitor tracker and invitations if the business enables them. The website owner decides on these technologies and is responsible for obtaining consent where required.
4. Managing your choices
- Our tool: Cookie settings — switch Analytics and Marketing on or off at any time. Withdrawing consent stops these technologies from loading on the next page view and we delete the cookies we can access.
- Global Privacy Control: if your browser or extension sends GPC, we automatically turn off and lock the Analytics and Marketing categories for that browser.
- Browser settings: you can block or delete cookies in your browser; see its help pages.
- Provider opt-outs: Google Analytics opt-out add-on, Yandex Metrica opt-out.
5. Changes
We update this policy when we add or remove technologies. If we add a new non-essential category, we will ask for your consent again.
